About

Hey there. I’m Jess. I’m 18 and studying a Bachelor of Communications and Media Studies at the University of Wollongong, majoring in Journalism and Professional Writing. I hope to one day work for a popular magazine – e.g. Cosmopolitan – as a columnist (yes, my aim in life is to be the next Carrie Bradshaw), although, I don’t really have any big ideas of what it is that I want to write about yet.

I was born in Newcastle, England but in June 2007 I moved to Sydney, Australia with my family. It was a big shock to find that there weren’t kangaroos roaming the suburbs and that the beach wasn’t literally across the street from my house, regardless of what Home and Away promised. The first time someone asked me, “How you going?” I became very confused because I wasn’t going anywhere.

I love listening to music, but I never really got into learning how to play an instrument. My favourite singers include Beyoncé – of course – and Demi Lovato, and some of my favourite songs range from Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’ and ‘My Humps’ by the Black Eyed Peas (don’t ask)… I love reading, and this past summer I managed to read up to fourteen books with perhaps a few days’ worth of a break in between each series. When I’m not listening to music or reading, you can probably find me driving around and visiting a cute café – who would’ve thought that I’d actually have a reason to go to Erskineville?! – with my friends, or sitting in front of the TV with a bowl of pasta and watching The Real Housewives.

I’m definitely excited to explore my course at UOW and hope to discover new things about the world I’m in. I also hope that I’ll soon get the hang of this blogging thing, too…
